Ann Kamhi Toran

Co-Owner, Polestar Pilates Educator and Teacher

ann_port_1Ann made Pilates her career after reaping the benefits of Pilates as an injured ballet dancer. Early in her career while working in Europe, Ann sustained a major back injury that was considered career threatening. She became a Pilates devotee after experiencing its effectiveness in both her rehabilitation and her improved fitness. Thanks to Pilates she not only performed again but was subsequently promoted to Soloist!

Although she stopped her performance career 20+ years ago, she continues to perform daily in the Pilates studio as both a teacher and perpetual student! She and her husband, co-owner and Chiropractor Errol Toran, have dedicated themselves to making the Pilates reformer available to everyone.

Ann has been certified through Polestar Pilates in both the ann_star_bw Allegro (group reformer) and Studio (apparatus) certifications. She continues to further her Pilates education by attending several conferences annually, as well as furthering her Pilates education through study with various Pilates educators.

Ann is now pursuing her next goal, as an Educator of Teachers for Polestar Pilates Education. The ultimate honor being to develop and inspire new teachers. Ann is currently teaching the Allegro (Reformer) course for Polestar Pilates here in New York City, and in Sion & Lausanne, Switzerland.

Ann describes her class as an intense, faster paced (she is a New Yorker after all) and demanding contemporary Pilates experience. A stickler for technique, she is very serious about her students improvement and there is a constant stream of encouragement and constructive criticism throughout her reformer classes. As a former dancer she often incorporates dance like movements in her class making the class challenging for both dancers and non-dancers alike.
